GCSE Results 2024

22/08/24

Ysgol Morgan Llwyd is thrilled to announce the exceptional performance of our Year 11 students in the 2024 GCSE examinations. Despite initial concerns through the press surrounding the anticipated grades being lower than the previous year we are delighted to report an improvement in results, notably, our A*/A grades. This achievement is a testament to the dedication and hard work of our students throughout their GCSE studies.

Headteacher Catrin Pritchard, who is about to leave Ysgol Morgan Llwyd for pastures new, extended her heartfelt congratulations to all the students who have demonstrated perseverance and commitment in their academic pursuits, “The results reflect our students' unwavering efforts, and it is truly rewarding to witness their hard work culminate in success on results day. This success can be attributed to a combination of factors: the effort put in by the students themselves; the school's excellent teaching staff,  investment in additional academic and pastoral support; as well as the steadfast and continuing support of parents, without whose collaboration, our job as educators would be much more difficult”.  She went on to add, “We are particularly proud of the fact that, as the only Welsh medium secondary school in Wrexham, 75% of students achieved  A* – C grades in Welsh as their first language. I have no doubt that this success will continue. The foundation has been laid for the future of Ysgol Morgan Llwyd and its wider community. I am proud of its success and feel confident that it will continue to thrive for many years to come.”

Iwan Owen-Ellis who will start as acting headteacher in September said, “We are incredibly proud of the students who have achieved outstanding GCSE results this year. We wish the best of luck to all our Year 11 cohort in the future and look forward to supporting the pupils that will be returning to Year 12 as they continue to excel in their A-Level studies through the medium of Welsh.”
