Welcome to the Modern Foreign Languages Department.
French is taught by subject specialists at key stages 3, 4 and 5. Spanish is offered as a GCSE course in key stage 4. As pupils learn a modern foreign language, they develop oracy, reading and writing skills. Selfconfidence, respect and tolerance towards other nations, countries and cultures are also nurtured.
As well as teaching both modern foreign languages, importance is placed on widening pupils’ knowledge and understanding of French and Spanish culture and traditions. Attention is also drawn to similarities between languages.
An educational trip to northern France is organised every year. Year 8 pupils usually have the opportunity to participate in this activity. While in France, pupils will visit places of historical and cultural interest, practise their French, taste typical French cuisine and experience life à la française.
