Mathematics
Welcome to the Mathematics Faculty!
Each pupil in years 7 - 11 follow a mathematics and numeracy course in their lessons. In the course pupils learn how to use a variety of mathematical procedures, and apply these procedures to solve problems. Often, these problems these are real-life applications of mathematics. There are also plenty of opportunities for pupils to apply their numerical reasoning to come to conclusions.
Pupils work towards two qualifications at G.C.S.E. level; Mathematics and Numeracy Mathematics. The Mathematics qualification shows a pupil’s ability to use mathematical procedures, whilst the Numeracy Mathematics course shows a pupil’s ability to apply mathematics in order to solve real life problems. Numerical reasoning is an essential element of both qualifications.
Mathematics leads to a wide variety of careers, and is applied in some way in the vast majority of jobs.
There is an opportunity for pupils who have studied the Higher Tier courses succesfully to study the subject further in Key Stage 5.
